Media Foundation

Bid to develop stories that touch life

Sep 08, 2012

KATHMANDU: In a bid to find out the actual value of social media in the development of news stories on issues that matter everyday lives, the Media Foundation launched New Media Gufa 2012 in the Capital today. The foundation announced the names of five tech-savvy journalists selected for the programme.

Among the journalists are Rajanish Bhandari of Kantipur Television, Keshav Koirala of The Himalayan Times, Gunaraj Luitel of Nagarik Daily, Arun Rai of Republica Daily and Binu Subedi of Community Information Network. The journalists will be kept in seclusion at the Hotel Mandap in Thamel from September 7-10 for 72 hours from everything except for computers or hand-held devices with uninterrupted access to the Internet, said general secretary of the Media Foundation Dr Dharma Adhikari. A team of three researchers under the leadership of Adhikari will observe and record the event. The event will challenge journalists to restrict their sourcing and news gathering to new media while reporting and writing high-quality stories on issues of common concern in rural areas. The findings and experiences along with stories will be compiled and published, Adhikari informed journalists. The event is organised in association with Hotel Mandap and Vision for Nepal Foundation, USA. (RSS)
